Numeracy
Numeracy provides children with a set of skills that enables them to understand the world around them. At Wheatfield we strive to develop a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards Numeracy using a wide range of practical activities and games which encourage engagement and effective learning. Use is made of the school building, its grounds and local environment to promote the effective use of pupils’ numeracy skills.
We cover all aspects of the curriculum, developing understanding of Number, Measures, Shape and Space, Handling Data, as well as Problem Solving and Reasoning. Children are encouraged to develop quick and accurate mental maths skills to allow them to become confident mathematicians and problem solvers.
We are fortunate to have a Numeracy learning support teacher this year, Mr McManus, who withdraws small groups of children for targeted sessions to help them reach their full mathematical potential.
